About

A clinician who treats stroke and builds for it.

Dr. Apostolos Safouris is a vascular neurologist and stroke specialist working between frontline clinical practice and the technology shaping its future.

Twenty years of vascular neurology and acute stroke practice sit behind EUROSTROKES — and behind every project on this site.

Clinical work becomes network change through collaboration, teaching and practical tools.

Today

Dr. Safouris is Consultant Neurologist at CHIREC in Braine-l'Alleud, Belgium, and a vascular neurologist and stroke specialist of twenty years' standing. EUROSTROKES SRL, his Belgian company, is the entity through which his advisory, knowledge, and clinical-build work is contracted. His roles outside EUROSTROKES are kept strictly separate from its commercial work — how that separation operates is set out in How We Work.

Background

Before Belgium, he served as Director of the ESO-certified Stroke Unit at Metropolitan Hospital and as Assistant Professor of Neurology at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. That combination — running a certified unit, treating acute stroke, and teaching it — grounds the clinical and knowledge work he does now.

His clinical focus spans acute ischaemic stroke, endovascular therapy decision-making, neurosonology, and secondary prevention. In 2024 his team's work was recognised with the Angels Spirit of Excellence Award at ESOC.

Why "AI-native"

EUROSTROKES is built on a simple conviction: the next decade of stroke care will be defined less by individual tools and more by how clinical reasoning is organised around them. Imaging AI can now quantify a stroke in seconds — but the leap from a quantified scan to a confident bedside decision is still a human one, and it is under-supported. EUROSTROKES works on exactly that gap: the evidence layer, the methodology, and the partnerships that connect frontline care to the tools changing it.

That work takes three forms — a knowledge build (Livetextbook), a clinical practice (AI-native neurovascular consultation), and advisory work with stroke-technology companies — all described under Projects.
